  • 2016 BIG TEN POWER RANKINGS: I have Ohio State 3rd, and I regret it already

At the end of each conference run-through, I take a look at how I perceive the conference's balance of power heading into the season. This is in no way based on schedules, so they are not predictions. This is just how I would rank the teams after writing thousands of words about each of them. When I finished all of the Group of Five conferences, I compiled a full mid-major power rankings list. Now we're into the power conferences; here's the ACC, and here's the Pac-12. Each team's name below links to its full preview. Tier 1 1. Michigan 2. Michigan State 3. Ohio State I've gone back and forth on this constantly. As you see below, all three of these teams have low numbers in returning production.

  • This video of Lionel Messi in training is just glorious (Luis Suárez nutmeg included)

Lionel Messi is awesome. Not only did he cut his vacation short so he could rejoin the Barcelona squad a week earlier to train with his teammates in England and play every friendly match in preseason, he is also using the training sessions  to show just how amazing he is. These are just 140 seconds of greatness. Messi is laughing in the Rondos as he makes his teammates look like fools, he's dribbling Mathieu like he's not even there, and he's even nutmegging his good friend Luis Suárez just because why not. He's also scoring goals on little posts, because every goalpost is big enough for Messi. Just wish Messi was not blonde. But hey, you can't always get what you want. Still, Messi, you're awesome.

  • Two years ago, Jaworski saw clear gap between Nick Foles and Russell Wilson

Three years ago, ESPN’s Ron Jaworski cooked up one of the hottest takes of all time, taking the position that quarterback Colin Kaepernick could be one of the best quarterbacks of all time. Jaworski’s opinion somehow became news for his employer, feeding the four-letter network’s engine for several days in August 2013. A year later, Jaworski offered up an even hotter — but far less memorable — take regarding quarterbacks Nick Foles and Russell Wilson. Given a choice between the two, which would he pick? “I’m taking Foles,” Jaworski said. “Not even close. Russell Wilson is just . . . because of that system he is in. Russell Wilson plays with that defense, the best in football. He just managed

  • Brock Lesnar WWE Wellness Policy Exemption Considered Unfair ‘Double Standard’ Backstage

When news first broke that Brock Lesnar would not be suspended by WWE for failing two UFC drug tests, superstars backstage were pretty upset. But now that the word has gotten out that Brock is completely exempt from the policy altogether, the feelings in the locker room have reportedly flowered into outrage over the double standard of the Wellness Policy. According to Dave Meltzer in the latest issue of the Wrestling Observer newsletter, when the locker room learned that Lesnar has never been tested at any time under the Wellness Policy, performers declared this to be an unfair double standard due in large part to the nature of part-timers’ contracts already: While no performer in WWE is likely

Sports. The team owes Kennedy $62.5 million from 2017-20 and they're looking to shed that commitment, the same way the Atlanta Braves used Craig Kimbrel to dump Melvin Upton Jr.'s contract last year. Passan says the Los Angeles Dodgers are seen as a possible fit for a Kennedy/Davis

Tuesday afternoon, he posted an explanation on Instagram for his deal. Here’s what he said: I didn’t do it for the money… I did it for the opportunity to go out & ball & have fun. • 2016 NFL Preview: Vikings hope to get Adrian Peterson to a Super Bowl

Shutdown Corner is previewing all 32 teams as we get ready for the NFL season, counting down the teams one per day in reverse order of our initial 2016 power rankings. There are probably two categories of Minnesota Vikings fans: Ones who have convinced themselves that Adrian Peterson is a superhero and will be a Hall of Fame running back forever, and the ones who worry if the rest of the Vikings will peak when Peterson is still in his prime. Back then Peterson was destined to be the NFL’s Ernie Banks and never play for a championship, at least for Minnesota.

  • Joey Votto Apparently Ripped Apart A Kid Who Wanted His Batting Gloves

Joey Votto’s heel turn continued Wednesday night at AT&T Park. The Cincinnati Reds first baseman has messed with fans a few times this season, earning himself a reputation as one of Major League Baseball’s biggest villains. He apparently added to that reputation during the finale of the Reds’ three-game series against the San Francisco Giants by refusing to give in to one kid’s demands. Votto probably was being playful. And hey, just because a kid asks for something doesn’t mean a player is obligated to fork it over. But this incident probably won’t do Votto any favors in the court of public opinion. Then again, he probably doesn’t care. Thumbnail photo via David Kohl/USA TODAY Sports Images

Exceeding the drama which came with Finn Balor's explosive main-roster debut on Raw seemed impossible heading into SmackDown on Tuesday—and although some would argue that didn't happen, Dolph Ziggler's victory to become the challenger for Dean Ambrose's WWE Championship has to rank as a major surprise, too. The company has certainly not disappointed when it comes to setting up an intriguing few weeks ahead of SummerSlam—but what lies in store for both announced title matches? One obvious and instant comparison that can be made between the WWE Championship and WWE Universal Championship is the level of wrestling ability between all four men involved. Finn Balor arrives on the main roster having wrestled a varying degree of different stars in NXT.

  • Reserve Ohio State DL Dylan Thompson academically ineligible for the fall

“Do something. And underline that. Do something.” Those were the words of Urban Meyer back in May when discussing the status of Dylan Thompson with his Ohio State football program.  Fastforward two months, and Thompson did indeed do something, albeit it’s a something that’s not even remotely positive. At the Big Ten Media Days Tuesday, the OSU head coach announced that Thompson is academically ineligible for the fall semester.  That means the defensive lineman likely won’t play at all in 2016, and it could mean it’s the end of the road for the player in Columbus. Thompson came to the Buckeyes as a three-star 2014 signee, rated as the No. 21 strongside defensive end in the country and the No.

  • Andrea Bargnani is heading to Spain, and this is probably the end

Free-agent big man Andrea Bargnani will return to Europe, signing a two-year deal with Saski Baskonia of Spain’s ACB — widely acknowledged as the second-best professional hoops league in the world — that, more than likely, spells the end of the NBA road for the former No. 1 overall draft pick. The 7-footer entered the NBA in 2006 after spending the first four years of his professional career in his native Italy, showcasing a sharpshooting touch from beyond the 3-point arc that helped Benetton Treviso win the 2006 Serie A title and earned him designation as the Euroleague’s 2005-06 Rising Star, an honor given to the top 22-and-under performer in the continental competition. Bargnani acquitted himself pretty admirably in his first few years in Toronto, offering scoring punch and an outside shooting threat on teams led by Chris Bosh and the T.J. Ford/Jose Calderon point guard combination that hung around the middle of the Eastern Conference pack.

Nick Foles might be the dumbest man in American, but at least one other NFL quarterback should be thanking him for it. Foles, the Los Angeles Rams quarterback, reportedly was released by the team Wednesday at his request. The 27-year-old was set to make up to $8.75 million this season, per Spotrac, but has been upset since the team selected quarterback Jared Goff with the No. 1 overall selection in the NFL draft earlier this year. Meanwhile, ESPN’s Ed Werder dropped this little nugget regarding the ripple effect Foles’ situation had on free
