Ryan Dempster given five-game suspension

The Yankees' Alex Rodriguez was hit by a pitch from Red Sox starter Ryan Dempster, which caused home plate umpire Brian O'Nora to issue warnings to both benches, which caused New York manager Joe Girardi to bolt out of the dugout, confront the umpire and be tossed from the game. It also caused teammate Brett Gardner to be held back by Tony Pena and Robinson Cano as he glared oot at Dempster (#46), far right. Clearly not pleased with A-Rod's return to Fenway Park, Boston pitcher Ryan Dempster threw a pair of balls at Rodriguez, connecting with the second. Irate that Dempsey didn't get tossed, Yankees manager Joe Girardi charged home plate umpire Brian O'Nora, earning a trip to the showers for himself.

UPDATE: Ryan Dempster was given a five-game suspension and undisclosed fine for throwing at Alex Rodriguez on Sunday night. (NBC Sports)
