A look at the Toronto Blue Jays as they prepare for the 2013 baseball season.
Thomas: Hillary Clinton has been exposed paying violent thugs to attack Trump supporters at Trump rallies. This is a crime, yet the state run media wants to ignore it, while the democrats want to deflect by questioning the avenue in which the information was obtained, not the outragous content of their actions. How could any of you shameful democrats condone such a cowardly act of violent against democracy by supporting this criminal? Not only is she not fit to be President, she isn't fit to be called an American.
Michael Crabtree is one unsportsmanlike conduct penalty from an automatic ejection after getting penalized for doing nothing wrong. Oakland Raiders wide receiver Michael Crabtree wasn’t able to avoid the penalty Sunday, even though he didn’t even do one. Crabtree celebrated a 2-yard touchdown pass against the Jacksonville Jaguars just before halftime by tossing the ball.
Kenny Atkinson got the Steve Serby treatment in the New York Post and Jeremy Lin sat down with Greg Logan of Newsday and the two were, as always, authentic and straightforward. The two steered clear of any predictions but focused instead on the value of progress, of sticking to a plan and their relationship ... as well as the pressure of coaching and playing in New York. “The process drives me now. Like the process of building a program, everything that it entails … every little detail. Not winning championships, not winning five games in a row, but just the whole process of building this program,” the coach turned . I’m obsessed with all the steps. That’s what drives me every morning: How can
Two more former NFL players have weighed in on NFL commissioner Roger Goodell and his mishandling of the situation with New York Giants kicker Josh Brown. Randy Moss, during a segment on ESPN’s “Sunday NFL Countdown” discussing Brown and the league continuing to bungle domestic violence cases, put things squarely on Goodell’s shoulders.
LONDON — Chelsea beat Manchester United 4-0 on Sunday in an unhappy return to Stamford Bridge for Jose Mourinho. First half goals from Pedro and Gary Cahill set them on their way and then Eden Hazard and N'Golo Kante added gloss to the scoreline as United unraveled as Chelsea went into the top four. Here’s what we learned from a humbling afternoon for Mourinho back in west London. NIGHTMARE RETURN FOR MOURINHO “You’re not special anymore!” “You’re getting sacked in the morning!” “Who are ya? Who are ya?” Those were just sum of the chants directed at Manchester United’s manager Jose Mourinho on his first return to Chelsea since he was sacked last December. It was an incredibly uncomfortable afternoon
Maybe Talladega was the “lay up” race of the third round? Joe Gibbs Racing’s four cars represent half of the eight drivers advancing to the third round of the Chase. Kyle Busch, Carl Edwards and Matt Kenseth entered Sunday’s race with hefty points advantages over ninth place.

She represented Germany at the 1928 Amsterdam Summer Olympics, bringing home a gold medal. Four years later, she competed in the Los Angeles Games. Two hours before her final matches, she learned that her boyfriend had died in a military training accident. She finished fifth. Mayer stayed in California and attended college for international law, hoping to perhaps become a diplomat for her country one day. In 1933, Hitler and the Nazi Party took power in Germany, and quickly set to work stripping away the rights of Jewish citizens — including Mayer, whose father was Jewish. Mayer’s membership in her hometown fencing club was revoked, and it became clear she could not return to Germany. The former
Washington Capitals forward Alex Ovechkin had the big highlight early in the game on Saturday night, but it was New York Rangers rookie Jimmy Vesey that ended up stealing the show. Vesey scored a pair of goals for the Rangers — the first multi-goal game of his career — to help lead his team to a 4-2 win in Washington. Even though he had never played a game in the NHL before this season, Vesey was still one of the most sought after free agents this summer after he completed his college career at Harvard. He eventually signed an entry level deal with the Rangers, and given how much attention his free agency saga generated it seemed hard to believe that he could ever match the hype. Especially
Kyle Schwarber might have a shot to return to the Cubs during the World Series. Here’s some news that will no doubt pique the interest of Chicago Cubs fans. It should also have the Cleveland Indians paying close attention.
After the Cleveland Indians knocked off the Toronto Blue Jays last week to win the American League pennant, Northeast Ohioans found their elation at the Tribe earning the right to play for their first Major League Baseball championship in 68 years briefly punctured by a sticky sports fandom dilemma. Game 1 of the 2016 World Series between the Indians and Chicago Cubs — who, as you might have heard, also haven’t won a title in a while — will take place at Progressive Field in Cleveland, and begin Tuesday night, Oct. 25, at 8:08 p.m. Eastern time.
The knock on James Franklin during his time at Penn State has been his teams coming up small in the biggest games. In front of a raucous whiteout crowd Saturday night at Beaver Stadium, the unranked Nittany Lions upset No. 2 Ohio State, 24-21. The Nittany Lions overcame a 21-7 fourth-quarter deficit to complete the comeback.
The Mets want to bring back Yoenis Cespedes, "but they probably wouldn't chase him if he got an enormous long-term deal elsewhere," given his age and the streaky nature of his production, according to weekend report from ESPN.com's Buster Olney. According to multiple reports, Cespedes is expected to opt out of his three-year contract and become a free agent. There is mutual interest in having him return to the Mets. However, "There is no urgency," a source told Olney, who says the Mets are open to effectively updating his current deal with another opt-out clause. Cespedes has until three days after the end of the World Series to decide whether to opt out of his current contract with the Mets, ESPN.com's
Christian Pulisic scored the tying goal in injury time. Muted by the worldwide hack on Friday was the shocking news of Barcelona (yes, that Barcelona) scouting Christian Pulisic (yes, that Christian Pulisic). The report from Spain found its way to the United States, but it didn’t get quite the holy-smokes-can-you-believe-this reaction it would’ve received if American Soccer Twitter had not been so rudely interrupted.
TALLADEGA, Ala.—Teammates Kevin Harvick and Kurt Busch are moving on together to the next round of the Chase. Harvick was angry enough that he stormed over to Busch’s car on pit road and punched at something—helmet, post, whatever—hard enough to rock the entire car on its chassis. Kevin Harvick and Kurt Busch have words.
Former U.S. women’s national team star Lauren Holiday had surgery on Thursday to remove a brain tumor. She was diagnosed with a benign, operable brain tumor in June while carrying her child with New Orleans Pelicans player Jrue Holiday, and doctors induced birth early to expedite surgery which was slated for Thursday. Many friends and fans sent well-wishes to Holiday on social media as she prepared to undergo surgery: At their game on Wednesday, USWNT players wore wristbands that said LH12, for Holiday’s initials and the number she wore on her jersey. Teammates still call her “Cheney,” which is her maiden name: There have been no updates from Holiday or her husband since the surgery and information
On paper, Chinese center Yi Jianlian made a lot of sense for the Lakers, especially in Luke Walton’s system — he was the only floor spacing big on the roster. Watching Yi at the Olympics, it was easy to imagine it working out for him in the NBA this time around. In practice, he was struggling to find a consistent role with the team. He had averaged less than 11 minutes a game in the preseason, shooting 35 percent overall and 16.7 percent from three. His defense wasn’t good, and he remains a player who doesn’t exactly have a high motor. With Julius Randle, Larry Nance, Timofey Mozgov, and Tarik Black, Yi wasn’t finding a consistent niche. So he has asked out of his contract and the Lakers are
As the first pitch of Game 6 of the National League Championship Series nears, almost all of the focus is on the Chicago Cubs opportunity to make history, reverse curses and reach the franchise’s first World Series since 1945. If any team has needed a 48-hour break to clear its mind and perhaps even allow the pressure to shift to the other side, it’s this Dodgers squad.
Kirk Cousins remains one of the most fascinatingly inconsistent quarterbacks in the NFL. Cousins went back to hand off to Matt Jones when he got his foot stepped on by an offensive lineman. Not really his fault! But Cousins’ desperation handoff to Jones was a bit of brilliant physical comedy that isn’t easy to forget.
After slipping on the road against Penn State, Ohio State took a slight fall in the coaches poll this week. The Buckeyes dropped from second in the poll behind top-ranked Alabama to eighth. Adding salt to the wound, Michigan took over the second spot in the poll previously occupied by Ohio State. Clemson remained at third in the poll and Washington moved into the top four. Arkansas and Ole Miss dropped out of the rankings this week, making room for Colorado and Virginia Tech. Houston, despite a blowout loss at SMU, remained in the top 25 at No. 24. Here is this week’s coaches poll, with first-place votes noted: Alabama (63) Michigan Clemson (1) Washington Louisville Nebraska Baylor Ohio State
When P.K. Subban shows up at your event, you expect to be entertained. And he basically always delivers. His trend of delighting Nashville Predators fans continued on Sunday, as he made a glorious appearance as the Tennessee Titans’ “12th Man.” If you close your eyes and picture a scene, you probably wouldn’t be that far off; it still doesn’t make this any less fantastic. (Even if the Titans eventually dropped a 34-26 loss to the Colts.) The photo he posted on his personal Twitter account was great: This GIF of him using a sword feels like it will get some mileage on Twitter. After totally convincing other people about your sports/political/hot-dog-being-a-sandwich opinion, and then drop the
Ralph Vacchiano | Facebook | Twitter | Archive EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. - Just four days ago, Ryan Fitzpatrick was pretty sure he had already thrown his last pass for the Jets. So when he jogged out into the Jets' huddle once again late in the first half on Sunday, he said "We almost all had to laugh at the situation, just the irony of it." It was, as he said, "pretty ironic". But there's nothing funny at all about the Jets' continuing quarterback mess. Every time they make a decision about a quarterback it turns out to be a bad one. And this time, there is no good decision for them to make. Really, it couldn't have happened in a more Jet-like way on Sunday, either, with the deposed Fitzpatrick
AMG Mercedes F1 team driver Lewis Hamilton took the pole in the United States Grand Prix at Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas. The 31-year-old Brit turned a lap nearly a quarter second faster than his teammate, Nico Rosberg. That’s practically
WASHINGTON — The commute might be a pain. The obstructed views and imperfect sightlines may be inconveniences. But the Barclays Center ice … the ice that continues to be sub-standard despite everything progressive ownership can do … it is the ice that will ultimately render this Brooklyn arena ill-suited to be the home of the Islanders for the long term. That is why majority owner Jon Ledecky and his group have the obligation to seek an arena of their own for this NHL stepchild, as they have over the last few months in conducting due diligence on alternate sites, and most prominently, we’re told, the Citi Field parking lot. Indeed, Slap Shots has learned Islanders ownership has held meetings
