The 1983 draft was so stocked that teams could close their eyes, throw a dart and target a future Hall of Famer. Unfortunately, the Steelers threw their dart into their own foot. Rivera was a controversial pick from the start, because the Steelers passed on local product Dan Marino as a successor to Terry Bradshaw. Rivera, a defensive tackle, played only one season before he was left paralyzed from a car accident.
