Aston Martin Racing's Allan Simonsen died from injures sustained in a violent, high-speed crash just nine minutes into the iconic motor racing event. The 35-year-old Dane was the first driver to die during the race since 1986.

    The Scottsdale, Arizona, Foothills Academy College Prep soccer team drove an hour to play Mesa's Faith Christian team Friday, only to be told the home team refused to play. Foothills' team has two female players, which appeared to be the problem - Foothills responded by saying they wouldn't play without all of their players, AZ Central reports. When schools in the district are too small to have both a boys and girls team, the Canyon Athletic Association allows girls to try out for and play with the boys as they wish.

    Chicago Blackhawks winger Artemi Panarin won the Calder Trophy last season and helped Patrick Kane to his Hart Trophy with outstanding play on their top line. According to the Chicago Tribune, Panarin is seeking a six-year deal with in excess of $6 million per season.   • Greg Hardy caught with cocaine, claims it’s not his

    Former Cowboys and Panthers defensive end Greg Hardy was arrested on Sunday after police found cocaine during a traffic stop. Hardy was pulled over for failing to use a turn signal, police asked to search him, and he agreed, police say. When they looked in his wallet, they found 0.7 grams of cocaine. The police report says that Hardy told the officer that he didn’t know what the substance was. Hardy said that the night before, he had passed his wallet around a party because he was paying for everyone, and someone must have put the cocaine in his wallet at the time.     Dr. Chris Ahmad, a New York Yankees physician, will examine RHP Masahiro Tanaka's forearm on Tuesday to determine whether or not Tanaka can pitch again this season, according to the New York Daily News' Mark Feinsand. Tanaka missed his last start with a right forearm strain. If Ahmad determines the injury healed, Tanaka could throw a bullpen session later this week with the possibility of pitching this weekend against the Baltimore Orioles. Tanaka, 27, is 14-4 with a 3.07 ERA this season. He last pitched on Sept. 21, giving up four runs and seven hits in six innings against the Tampa Bay Rays.

    The Indians beat the Tigers 7-4 at Comerica Park on Monday night, clinching the AL Central for their first division title since 2007.
