First, on the knee injury, Wilson told Seattle media he wasn’t supposed to play for four weeks. Wilson, with the help of a live-in therapist, never missed a game. Wilson has a pectoral injury he’s dealing with.
World Series tickets in Chicago will cost you a very pretty (perhaps even gorgeous) penny. But let’s say you want to watch the Chicago Cubs and the Cleveland Indians play on TV at a bar in Wrigleyville, which is next to Wrigley Field. Apparently some bars in Wrigleyville are charging up to $250 to get in the door, which is an insane amount of money. What it does not include is a place to sit. So you get buffet food and drinks for the pleasure of standing and watching the World Series while packed like a sardine at a bar.
Singer Sevyn Streeter says the Philadelphia 76ers pulled her at the last minute from performing the national anthem at the team's season opener over a "We Matter" jersey. Sevyn posted a short video to Twitter talking about the incident at the match-up between the 76ers and the Oklahoma City Thunder. "I'm at the 76ers game singing the National Anthem and the organization is telling me I can't because I'm wearing a 'We Matter' jersey," Sevyn said. The 76ers organization sent the following statement to Action News, a local ABC affiliate: The Philadelphia 76ers organization encourages meaningful actions to drive social change. We use our games to bring people together, to build trust and to strengthen
Cam Talbot had another strong game for the Edmonton Oilers on Wednesday night by stopping 34 of the 35 Washington Capitals shots he faced in a 4-1 win, improving his season save percentage to a robust .927. Along with backstopping the Oilers to their sixth win in seven games to open the season, the team’s best start since a guy by the name of Wayne Gretzky played for them, he was also involved in some rough stuff in the second period when he went old school on Capitals forward T.J. Oshie for charging into his crease and cross-checking him. Talbot’s response (as seen in the video above) was an attempt to feed Oshie his blocker pad. The end result of that exchange was Oshie getting a two-minute
Through three quarters, the 2016-17 NBA season opener between the Atlanta Hawks and Washington Wizards was a nip-and-tuck battle, a knock-down drag-out affair featuring 14 ties, 17 lead changes and plenty of dueling runs that left just one point separating the two clubs entering the fourth and final frame. Over a seven-minute span, though, the Hawks hit the gas and left the Wizards in the dust, offering hope for continued success despite major changes in the starting lineup. After a jumper by new Wizards big man Jason Smith gave Washington an 82-81 lead with 11:18 to go in regulation, the Hawks utterly dismantled Washington, ripping off a 24-4 run that turned a hard-fought contest into a laugher.
Kyle Busch will only be able to make 10 Xfinity Series starts in 2017. A rule limiting Sprint Cup drivers in NASCAR’s No. 2 and No. 3 series is official. NASCAR said Wednesday that Cup drivers with five years full-time experience in the series will be limited to 10 Xfinity races and seven Camping World Truck Series races a season starting in 2017.
My inbox and Twitter feed are cluttered with questions about Yoenis Cespedes, what the Mets are doing, what they plan to do, and what I want them to do. Here are my answers to the five most common questions... 1) What does Cespedes want, and how much would the Mets be willing to offer? I've heard the Mets are interested in keeping him for four years, preferably around $25 million a season. Multiple reports indicate he wants at least five years, maybe as many as six, while averaging around $30 million a season. Obviously, this is why he and the Mets couldn't agree on a contract extension and why he's opting out. So, good for him. Look, if he can find a delirious team to give him a six-year deal,
You should make a note that Sonya Toms, wife of golfer David Toms, will celebrate her birthday on Jan. 4. "The nice thing is, I don’t forget her birthday," David said Wednesday on the eve of the Sanderson Farms Championship in Mississippi. Since he won 13 tournaments, including the 2001 PGA Championship, they were frequent Kapalua visitors.
The puck rolled to Shea Weber and everyone in Barclays Center knew what was coming next. In the process, he screened him, and Weber’s point blast on the power play at 17:03 gave the Habs the lead and eventually the win, 3-2, improving to 6-0-1 on the young season. “I’m maybe [surprised] at the point total,” said Montreal’s Paul Byron.
Denver Broncos fans had DeMarcus Ware’s back. When news broke that Ware’s Super Bowl 50 ring was stolen as the Broncos played on “Monday Night Football” against the Houston Texans, Broncos fans went to work, spreading around pictures of the thieves on social media and calling in tips to police. By Wednesday, Ware’s ring was back.
When your favorite team hasn’t won a World Series in 108 years, you’ll do just about anything to help them gain a mental advantage. Upon looking over the Cleveland Indians’ roster, Mollett decided starting pitcher Trevor Bauer would be his target. Bauer was already in the midst of an interesting postseason.
Marcus and Markieff Morris have been sued by a man who claims the NBA star twin brothers beat him to a bloody pulp during a 2015 incident ... and now he's messed up physically and emotionally. The man behind the lawsuit is Erik Hood -- who says he went to a youth basketball game in Phoenix in January 2015 because he's friends with one of the coaches ... only to be attacked by the Morris brothers after the game. In the suit, filed by David Gammill of Geragos & Geragos, Hood says the Morris bros -- along with 3 other men -- had "formulated a joint plan to attack" ... and then executed it after the game. Hood says one of the men said to him, "(expletive), you know what time it is" -- and then
Boston Bruins forward David Pastrnak has had a busy night on Wednesday. After opening the scoring just 10 seconds into their game against the New York Rangers, he might have brought some unwanted attention upon himself when he was given a two-minute minor penalty for an illegal check to the head of Rangers defenseman Dan Girardi in the second period. It all happened as Girardi was attempting to knock a puck down out of mid-air when Pastrnak came in with a crushing high hit. Girardi was shaken up as a result of the hit and briefly exited the game before later returning after missing a couple of shifts. The Bruins ended up successfully killing the two minute penalty to Pastrnak, but quickly gave
Yahoo Sports' Greg Wyshynski offers early fantasy hockey advice including a Maple Leafs forward to grab off the waiver wire and a goalie to ship out while the going is good.
Immediately after this happened, everyone wanted to know this dude’s identity (and, if you’re Jeff Van Gundy, why Westbrook wasn’t allowed to go into the stands and beat the hell out of him). As it turns out, Philly.com learned that this Sixers fan is named Richard Harkaway, and when he’s not trying to get a rise out of All-NBA guards, he’s a urologist in Philadelphia. In this instance, after standing up to boo and being provoked by Russell Westbrook calling attention to my being overweight, my action in response was clearly inexcusable and I am embarrassed.
According to multiple reports, Mets OF Yoenis Cespedes is expected to opt out of his three-year contract and become a free agent...Cespedes (52) tosses his bat after a home run at Citi Field. (Credit: Murray-USA TODAY Sports). Most Recent Updates & Reaction Cespedes will opt out, though he and the Mets continue to have an open dialogue about a new contract, MLB reporter Jon Heyman wrote Oct. 26. Nevertheless, just as they did a year ago, the Mets seem pretty convinced Cespedes will not be back, ESPN.com's Adam Rubin tweeted later in the night. Cespedes, who has two years and $47.5 million left on his current deal, is seeking a new, five-year contract, according to Rubin. Matthew Cerrone | Snapchat
One of the more common responses to what I’ve posted about Chief Wahoo lately is “it’s just a cartoon character! Nobody cares!” Well, looking at that guy in the photo above and many others dressed like him at Progressive Field the past two days is evidence that it is not just a cartoon character. A certain swath of Indians fans think that, because of their team’s name and mascot, it’s totally acceptable to show up in public looking like this. Wahoo as an official trademark of a Major League Baseball club gives people license to dress up in redface — or in this case, red and blackface — with headdresses on, turning a real people and a real culture into a degrading caricature. It’s not just a cartoon
The injuries affecting the Boston Bruins isn’t only limited to their crease. Aside from being without their top two goaltenders they were also missing Frank Vatrano, Kevan Miller and David Backes. Backes is the newest member of the Bruins’ injured list and his situation was clarified a bit by the team on Wednesday morning.

The Denver Broncos’ offensive plan on Monday night against the Houston Texans was to have C.J. Anderson and Devontae Booker split time and pound the opposing defense on the ground. There’s some concern about half of that running back tandem, as Anderson was seeking a second opinion on a knee injury according to 9News’ Mike Klis. Booker, a rookie, has shown he can be an effective back.
A proposed fight between Georges St-Pierre and Michael Bisping at UFC 206 was quickly shot down by GSP. For a moment, there appeared to be a light at the end of the tunnel in the ongoing battle between Georges St-Pierre and the UFC. After St-Pierre declared himself as a free agent, the UFC drew their line in the sand and stated that the former champion was still under contract.
Dwyane Wade was terrific in his first game with the Chicago Bulls. One game will not solve those questions, but Thursday night’s opener against the Boston Celtics offered some surprising initial answers. The Bulls’ trio of guards didn’t struggle from three-point range — in fact, they thrived.
The Anaheim Ducks finally hammered out a (sweet) deal with Hampus Lindholm, so now it comes down to some housekeeping. Specifically, it means sending some fairly useful players with significant pedigrees down to the AHL on Thursday. The team announced that both Shea Theodore and Emerson Etem are bound for the San Diego Gulls. Theodore, the 26th pick back in 2013, contributed a pretty assist to the Ducks’ 6-1 shellacking of the Nashville Predators last night: It’s a cool story that Etem returned to the franchise that selected him 29th overall in 2010, yet he’s struggled to really find a niche in the NHL so far. At 24, there’s still time, though he likely feels a little anxious to become a full-time
