im sorry i think he was murdered. if you go look at the ppeople who carry his open casket the guy in the front to the right looks very suspicious and he looks at the cameras and hes the only one who did. i think he killed him in a way. they should turn this into a investigation.

I feel for this guy's family, but still. People need to recognize that there are always risks when playing professional sports. Luge, bobsledding, and some of the others are so dangerous, I'm surprised there are not more serious injuries and deaths. Pretty much all of these athletes play Russian Roulette almost every time they do their sport. They pretty much defy death every time they make a successful run. They do it for the thrill and glory they get for being the best, the fastest, etc, and sometimes their numbers just come up. A Californian X Gamer recently died in a skiing accident. People who insist on participating in sports like this know the risks they take, and pretty much ignore them, thinking that it won't happen to them. Some people do it all their lives and nothing happens, others have terrible accidents. Nodar's number just came up. This should be a wake up call for parents to really think before allowing their children to get into these sports when they're young.
A note to the person who criticized other athletes for giving to Haiti and why not for their "fellow olympian" after his death, Please don't even talk about the two in the same sentence. MILLIONS died in Haiti due to an earthquake, not for doing a sport that they CHOSE to do, knowing all the risks entailed. Many of those people do not even have any family left to mourn for them at all, and the country is extremely poor, way more so than Georgia, who apparently has enough money in order to send athletes to the Olympics in the first place. Nodar was just ONE man who always be remembered and loved by his people, but what about all the ones in Haiti who died? Why don't they get monuments and stuff named after them?

Post by Karen says it all! I hope a fund for the memorial luge track in Nodar's name is made available worldwide to help the town of Bukariani get this built as quickly as possible. Pictures of Nodar's life are few on the internet....but what a beautiful child and handsome young man he was. Let's get this Georgian track built for Nodar and all who love him, miss him and forever will remember him and for those of us who did not know him personally but have been deeply affected by him....I am one who won't forget....ever. Nodar, rest well with the angels, young brave one.

Every four years I looked forward to the winter olympics for the spirit of the athletics representing their
country and their courage, dedication to their sport and country. Nodar was a symbol of everything good in this world with the kindness he showd to his countryman and pride for his country. Today's youth can learn so much from the life he lived. Now a shadow has been cast on the games for the way
the IOC officials are trying to push the story in the direction of Nodar's error not the design and lack of safety on the last turn. Notice how his tragedy is not mentioned in the ongoing sliding competion only how fast the track is. I had to turn it off for it was so offensive to watch. I'm am sure that NBC got a warning to let the story go for fear of sponsorship but the truth needs to be settled so he will not have died in vain.
Although I think in one way it may appear cruel to post the pictures of Nodar and his family's grief, I feel that his story must not be pushed under the rug which it seems that the Olympic committee is trying to do especially the Luge Federation. His death must not be forgotten because this is a case of the Canadian sport officals and government(I am not blaming the good people of Canda) that wanted to be credited that they had the fastest track in the world. It is clear now after the track has been going through continued adjustments after many crashes that his death could have been provented.
It is unbelieveable to me that a top luge icon from Germany designed the course and was approved by
many Canadian luge officials and they couldn't see that the high speed around the last turn at 90 miles couldn't sustain a luger if he made a slight error to go flying off the track. Creed and self importance of the sport cost a great young man his life.
I am furious and so angry with this tragedy that I hope and pray that in his death his legacy will be that he brought the sport of luge to the highest level of safety.
It saddens me so much every time I think that he was so fearful of the track but continued on knownig the risk but didn't want to disappoint his family and country. His bravery was one for the ages.
This just a thought.and recommendation......I keep hearing how much many of the famous athletics from each country who are icons and make millions from endorsements in their country have not came out with a Nodar Fund in keeping with the spirit of the games and respect for each other in the games. Why couldn't the IOC start a fund in his name for the family or especially to his hometown of Bukariani where the Russian athetics used to train for the Winter Olympics. After their civil war the town lost the winter sport venues in which many were destroyed. What a way to honor his memory in which the venues could be rebuilt named after him. I keep hearing that many winners have donated money to Africa and Haiti...
Hayley and Shaun White....snowbroading champions from United States.
Come on guys!......how about giving back to a fellow olympian's family and town to honor Nodar Kumaritashvili.
His memory will live forever in my heart and I pray in the hearts of others around the world.
God bless your soul and continue to watch over your family, country and those of us who have been
touched by your beautiful soul and not given the chance to have followed your life. I hope you know that you have touched so many hearts more than you could have ever imagined.

Anytime a young life is taken, we all grieve. It was so sad when I heard of this young man's dealth and the grief the family endured and still enduring. He will never be replaced and the parents heart's are forever broken. I don't know the family but my prayers and thoughts are with them. They need to stay strong and keep his memory alive by cherishing the wonderful moments they all shared.

Shame on them for posting up these pictures of the funeral or wake. That should be kept private, not for the whole world to see. I agree with the above post aswell. It makes me very sad and angry to see these pictures up here. My heart goes out to his family, my prayers are with you.

words can not describe how heartbroken I am over Nodar's death. it makes me cry every time i see his picture or think about this horrible accident. my heart goes out to his family. Rest in peace Nodar. Georgia will never forget your name!

P.S please remove some of the pictures. It is upsetting and very inappropriate to post the family's tragic private moments with their dead son for whole world to see. :(
