Athlete Profile

  • Kiprusoff was selected to represent Finland in the 2006 Turin games, but did not play due to a hip injury. He has enjoyed success on the international level, though, helping lead the Finns to silver medals at the World Cup of Hockey in 2004 and at World Championships in 1999 and 2001. Formerly a backup to Russia's Evgeni Nabokov with the San Jose Sharks, Kiprusoff's big break came when he was dealt to Calgary in 2003 for a draft choice. Three years later, he won the Vezina Trophy after leading the NHL with 10 shutouts and finishing second with 42 wins. In only six seasons, Kiprusoff has become the Flames' all-time leader in shutouts and is second in wins behind Mike Vernon.
