Athlete Profile

  • Wickenheiser has represented Canada in three Olympics, winning gold medals in 2002 and 2006 and silver in 1998. She was the leading scorer on the women’s side in 2002 and 2006, earning MVP honors both times. In 16 Olympic games, Wickenheiser has 14 goals and 21 assists. She has won six gold medals at World Championships and 10 golds from Nations Cup tournaments throughout her career. She scored her 100th international career goal on Aug. 31, 2005, in a 3-1 win over Sweden to become the first Canadian to reach that milestone. In 2003, Wickenheiser became the first woman to play full-time professional hockey at a position other than goalie when she had a goal and three assists in 12 games for HP Salamat in Finland. In 2008-09, she had five goals and six assists in 25 games for Eskilstuna Linden, a third-division men’s professional team in Sweden.
