Athlete Profile

  • One of the most accomplished athletes to ever compete in the sport, White - also known as “The Flying Tomato” - won the halfpipe gold medal in the 2006 Torino Olympics, and he seems primed to defend that title. White finished first in four of five Grand Prix qualifying events, including a near-perfect 49.50 score in the last event leading up to the Vancouver games. He also may have a new trick to debut - the double McTwist 1260, which he broke out during a final Grand Prix practice in Park City, Utah. White is a four-time gold medalist in the superpipe competition and a five-time gold medalist in slopestyle at the Winter X Games. In 2007, he became the first person to win a gold medal at both the Summer and Winter X Games when he finished first in the skateboarding “vert” competition. White is a two-time winner of the Most Outstanding Athlete award at the Winter X Games, a three-time champion at the Winter Dew Tour and a three-time ESPY award winner. The two-sport athlete has his own video game, “Shaun White Snowboarding.” White, who’s been snowboarding professionally since he was 9, was born with a congenital heart defect, for which he endured two open-heart operations.
