Athlete Profile
- A former dominant inline skater from the ages of 6 to 18, Derrick crossed over to speedskating in 2003 to fulfill her goal of being on an Olympic team.
- Won two gold medals and two bronze medals during the 2008-09 World Cup season, with three of the medals coming in the 1,000 meters and a gold on the relay team.
- Derrick placed third in the 500 and 1,500 meters at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials.
- She won a silver medal in the 3,000-meter relay in the first event of the 2009 World Cup season in Beijing and also placed fourth in the relay in Seoul, the second event of the season.
- Derrick is considered a medal hopeful in the 1,000 and 1,500 meters.
- At the 2006 Olympics in Turin, she was on the 3,000-meter relay team that finished fourth and was DQ’d in the 1,000 meters, a race she skated just hours after learning her grandfather had died of a heart attack.
