Athlete Profile

  • Arguably the best hope for a medal among U.S. female speedskaters, Reutter has been angling for a breakout performance in Vancouver.
  • She won her third consecutive championship at the U.S. Olympic trials, winning the overall distance classification in the 1,000 and 1,500 meters.
  • Reutter won her first World Cup gold medal in Beijing with a victory in the 1,000 meters and added a silver in the 3,000-meter relay and bronze in the 1,500 meters.
  • Finished second in the 1,000 meters and fourth in the 500 meters at the World Cup event in Marquette, Mich., her second straight World Cup event in which she claimed a medal after winning the 1,500 meters in Montreal.
  • Reutter also picked up a second-place finish in the 3,000-meter relay in Montreal, teaming with Allison Baver, Kimberly Derrick and Alyson Dudek.
  • She appears to be developing a rivalry with South Korean skater Lee Eun-Byul, whom she held off to beat in Beijing before the two collided in Seoul during the 1,500-meter final.
  • She also won three silver medals in the 1,500 meters during the 2008-09 World Cup season and one silver in the 1,000 meters.
  • The 21-year-old currently holds the American record in the 1,000 meters at 1:29.667.
