Athlete Profile
- Dukurs comes into the Vancouver Games as one of the favorites for the gold medal after claiming his first World Cup title in 2009-10. The 25-year-old Latvian earned medals in seven of the eight races and won four. Dukurs was sixth in the 2008-09 World Cup and fifth in 2007-08, but hasn't finished higher than fifth at the world championships, earning that finish in 2008. He was seventh at the 2006 Turin Games. Dukurs began the sport through his father, a former bobsled brakeman and manager of his home track in Sigulda, Latvia. His 28-year-old brother, Tomass, was fourth in this season's World Cup.
