Seemingly, a nice girl, evidently; beautiful and talented. HOWEVER, I do have reservations about her integrity whereas she allows her Mother to DUMP Brian Orser after 4 years of training which brought her to the Gold Medal. No reasons given, no returned emails, no anything to Mr. Orser. Super disrespectful, and no person deserves to be treated that way after all the time he put in with her.
Instead of having "Mommy" call the shots, Mommy evidently needs teaching of manners. She's evidently setting a bad example for her daughter. Other trainers and choreographers should boycott the training of Yu-Na, since they might get treated the same way Brian Orser was treated.
If Yu-Na wants to be a "Class Act", she'd better start acting like it.

    WOW!!
I was mesmerized by her performance.....and continue to be touched by it every time I watch the reruns. It's amazing that a teenager can show such brilliance on the ice--no matter where she's from!
As much as I would have liked for Joanne or Rachel to win the gold when the Olympics first started, Yu-Na more than deserved it. My heart bled for Joanne when she lost her mother, and swelled with pride at her fantastic performance a few days later. I cannot agree with those who think she won the bronze out of sympathy from the judges; she was excellent, and I can't imagine that anyone else could have skated so well following such a personal tragedy. Rachel was wonderful, achieving a personal best, and I look forward to seeing her at the 2014 Olympics.
All the ladies should be proud of their accomplishments, and with the grace with which they accepted their triumphs and tragedies. They made this an Olympic year to remember!

it's amazing how people thumbs down comments that commend her performance and personality as a lovable athlete and world class skater. it show how many ignorant and bias haters there are that really dont think of anything other than what they want.

I don't care who she is or where she's from, anyone who wins the gold medal by skating to James Bond film sountrack music definitely deserves the gold. She couldn't have done it any better. That's right, nobody does it better on ice than Yu Na Kim - you go girl!

Yuna Kim is just amazing. What she's doing is International Art. To hate such a lovely human being is merely stupid. We should be proud of her great performance which comes from her soul and beautiful body, her passion and dedication that are of the universal value which Koreans don't usually give respect and recognition than US. Koreans should be proud that she's happy about her nationality.

    To unknown user:

I'm going to have to disagree w/ you on a few points. Why are you talking about America? You just brought it up out of nowhere on a page meant for Kim Yuna. Why the the h*** would any country talk about genocide and slavery at a sporting event? All it would do is bring anger & resentment into the hearts of people when the whole purpose of these events are to bring unity. I mean seriously, what kind of idiot would support that. Sporting events are meant to bring entertainment & fair competition. It's not meant to make people cry.

Please don't act like slavery and racism was invented in the US. It's been ubiquitous all over the world; Korea included. In my opinion, it's overemphasized in American schools. It's no big secret. We are all taught this in schools. Please don't act like it's a government secret. Why are you talking about America as if it is an economically bad place to live? Are you kidding me? What the h*** are you talking about? Poverty is at a low level in America compared to the rest of the world. Do you want to see "REAL" poverty? Go to Latin America, Africa, and Eastern Europe. There, you will see poverty like you've never seen before. Stop making fun of these people. The historical unemployment rate in America is about 5%. It's been higher nowadays because of the global recession. It's exactly like i said it, global. Every country is having hardships right now.

I'm actually ethnically Korean & proud of it, ttorai sekkiya! Do I think the ROK should be thankful to the American military for detering the North. Absolutely! The number of US troops in Korea is definitely not symbolic. There is a reason why US troops were left in Korea after the Korean War. It was to reassure the S. Koreans that America was committed to protecting the South. After the Korean War, many Koreans thought that the US would abandon them if another war were to break out. The US agreed to put their own troops at the border. The US troops at the DMZ would work as a tripwire. If the North were to attack, for sure many American lives would be lost since they are right there at the border. If American lives were lost, then of course that would be a war that the US would be willing to fight and send an additional 300,000 troops on top of the 30,000 already there. All that potential sacrifice to give S. Koreans a peace of mind. Remember, America saved Korea twice. Not just the Korean war but also during WWII. The Russians were about to take over all of Korea. The Americans stopped them at the middle of the country. That's why at least half of Korea is a free country. And what neighboring allies are you talking about? S. Korea does not have a military alliance w/ any country except the US. Do you think Japan will help? That's impossible. Their constitution actually forbids them to get involved in foreign wars. Do you think China or Russia will help? pshhh, they are NORTH Korea's allies. Do you think Taiwan (Republic of China) would help? Probably not, because that would give Communist China an excuse to finally invade and take over Taiwan (Free China).

Believe it or not, America is Korea's friend and ally. Enough of this anti-American sentiment. Why would you want to break an alliance and friendship that's been around for 65 years. There is no way Korea could have become the economic powerhouse it is today w/o American financial aid and military aid. America actually gave Korea free money ($ millions of it too) to build it's shattered economy after the Korean War. S. Korea on it's own would probably lose a war against N. Korea. The only reason N. Korea isn't attacking is b/c of the US. They're afraid of the US-Korea alliance. All this help from America and what do people like you do in return: complain.

And you're wrong about the American national anthem. There are more stanzas than one. Idiot

When it comes to national pressure, Mao Asada had it much worse. It got so bad that the Japanese prime minister went on TV to calm his people down. Some Japanese internet chatter even threatened death if she should lose because of all the gambling bets on her.
