Athlete Profile

  • Kober was the youngest rider to compete in the parallel giant slalom finals at the 2006 Winter Olympics, where she finished second behind Daniela Meuli. This result was somewhat of a surprise considering that, even though she'd been racing on the World Cup circuit since 2003-04, her best result up until the Turin games was a silver-medal finish in an event in Austria in 2005. The silver medal in Turin, however, seems to have done wonders for Kober's confidence as she's now arguably the top threat to win gold in the PGS in Vancouver. She won one World Cup event in both 2006 and 2007, but has been on a tear recently. Kober won six of the seven 2009 World Cup competitions in which she participated from January in Kreischberg, Austria, to October in Landgraaf, Norway. The lone event she didn't take home gold - an even in Germany at the end of January - saw her finish second behind Austrian star Doris Guenther, who will be one of Kober's top challengers in Vancouver.
