Athlete Profile

  • With an Olympic history that couldn’t be much more frustrating, Bozzetto will take what could be one final run at the podium in Vancouver. Although the Frenchman finished in the top six in the giant slalom in 1998 and the parallel GS in 2002 and 2006, he’s never managed to win a medal, coming closest four years ago in Turin. He lost the semifinal race to eventual silver medalist Simon Schoch, then crashed during the bronze medal race and was defeated by Austria’s Siegfried Grabner. The well-respected veteran has never had problems raking in hardware outside of the Olympics, with an incredible 66 career medals (35 gold) in alpine events on the World Cup circuit dating to 1998. Bozzetto won parallel season titles in 2000, 2002 and 2003, and finished second in 2004 and 2008. At 36, he doesn’t appear to have lost a step after earning a silver medal in parallel slalom in the season’s first World Cup event in Landgraaf, Netherlands, in October - a result that came on the heels of a one-year hiatus from competition. He added a bronze in December at Telluride, Colo. Bozzetto’s lengthy resume also includes a pair of silver medals at world championships in the parallel slalom.
