Athlete Profile

  • While Anderson’s best Olympic finish was fifth place in the snowboardcross four years ago in Turin, the versatile veteran made a big decision in Februrary, one year ahead of the 2010 Games in his native country. Instead of racing in both snowboardcross and parallel giant slalom, Anderson has begun to focus only on alpine racing despite disappointing Olympic finishes of 20th (2006) and 29th (2002) in the parallel GS and 16th (1998) in the giant slalom. The decision appears to have already paid dividends, as Anderson finished on the podium in his final three World Cup events last winter, winning at La Molina, Spain, and Valmalenco, Italy. He began this season with a bronze medal at Landgraaf, Netherlands, and won events at Telluride, Colo., and Kreischberg, Austria, adding a third-place finish at Stoneham, Quebec to increase his career total of World Cup podiums in various events to 59. The Montreal-area native had already proven he can take down the top spot in a major event; he won world championships in parallel GS in 2005 and 2009, and added a gold medal in parallel slalom in 2005. Anderson hopes for a strong finish to his Olympic career before he retires to his blueberry farm with his wife and two daughters.
