Apollo was disqualified for touching the Japanese competitor in another race. It wasn't his first time.
The U.S. and Canada have always had a strong rivalry. I suppose it is easier for Apollo to pass blame rather than own up to his mistake. He is lucky to not have been DQ'd in the relay. He did impeded the Korean team with 2 laps to go. He did much more than the Korean women did when they were DQ'd 2 days earlier.
I suggest you pick a new hero or role model because Ohno is a disgrace to the sport.
It was actually the australian judge that made the desision, the canadaian just vite for the dq, as well.
I am sure Mr. Ohno enjoyed the home ice advantage in Salt Lake City. I think he needs to be gracious in his defeat and even if he weren't DQ'd Hamelin would have still taken Gold. I think we all need to learn a little more class in this world.
You can clearly see from the live replays that hamlin had his hand on the other skater which is allowed, and you can clearly see no movement of his arm or fingers. That is ALLOWED.
I have lost a ton of respect for Ohno after the comments that he made. He was been on the good end of people getting DQed so many times. Now he finally gets DQed and he blames the judges!! Its just sad, because its obvious he didn't have it in him to win the race so he just charged ahead and knocked a guy over. I use to really like Apolo but now I just think he is a poor sport and a whinny little baby!!
When it comes to trained, disciplined Olympic athletes, there are no whiney babies...only whiney armchair spectators and bloggers.

Did everyone forget that there are THREE judges on this... like get a life and stop complaining... Lots of skaters were disqualified that night and even a canadian was! And maybe you guys should all go back and look at the replay and you can clearly see him making an illegal move and you can clearly see the korean tripping over his own skate which cause him to lose balance and grab Hamelins skate.. Like get over yourselves... This is why you're the most hated country in the world...

Hamelin was desperately reaching out to grab at the Korean. And he pulled so hard he put himself off balance too. A Canadian judge? That was a gift from the Olympic committee to the host nation. A thank you for all the revenue. Don't buy Canadian, please.

Hamelin should have been DQ'd for his contact with the Korean skater. Thanks to the judge, his countryman, he got a pass. Had he been DQ'd, as he deserved, who would have been awarded the bronze? The 500m final was an embarrassment for Ohno, Hamelin, our neighbors to the north, short track, and the Olympics. Shame on the host nation.

Canadian judges sure used their influence to gain a gold and bronze medal in this race. Also, in the figure skating for Joannie Rochette giving here the bronze on lackluster skating programs because they felt sorry for her. Cheated skater Johnny Weir out of 15 points. So, the podium first campaign has allowed them to cheat themselves into 3 medals. Well, next winter games in Russia they'll fall flat on their @#$% without the home country head nods in judging. All I gotta say hey canada, NIGHT TRAIN baby Night Train suck on that.....

Ohno could DQ'd for an illegal pass- you can not cut in front of another skater on the inside when there isn't room. He knew he had to get postion, and tried to squeeze around the Canadian skater to get ahead, and he couldn't do it quick enough, so he ran into the Canadian- hand or not- you can not force your way around a skater on the inside, this is why he was disqualified. Canadian judge or not, it is the rules. Ohno's pushing the Canadian out of his space (meaning, out of the way) caused the Candian to bump the Korean and the domino effect took place. Ohno has been lucky before when questionable calls go his way, and said that he skated a great race and was happy. The DQ'd accepted the call and that was it. Now, Ohno is DQ'd, and he has to make a smart comment about the judge and what happened, and then leave. As has been stated by even American journalists- way to go out of what could be your final Olympics with grace...yeah right. Someone should teach him what common courtesy is and the rest of you the rules of speed skating.

I think that charles hamelin should have been dq also cause he almost lost his balance because he shoved the on kid and made him fall. so unfair they should do the race over to be fair to all well it was a canada judge so what do you expect and aplo told how he felt and got cut down for it; maybe it makes them proud to get a medal that way. I just think it was a bad call on the judge it not the to boys from canada fault. the judge is the one who has to sleep with it at night what if the other two county judge had made that call against them. would they enjoy it

Hamelin definitely should have been disqualified as well. The only ones not looking at the tape of the race was that incompetent judge. It is so obvious of Hamelin's pushing the korean skater. Hamelin was a sourpuss through all the races and pouting because he didn't win. Disappointed in the Canadian judges as well as the attitude of that jerk Hamelin. Surprised that he would be so childish and petty. He gives all canadians a bad name.

Ohno just touched that guy when he was already going down and he touched him just by skating and moving his arm inadvertantly. If Ohno was to be disqualified for this minor touch, then to be fair, The Gold Winner also should have been disqualified for really pushing on the 2nd place skater and making him fall.
I mean they should have checked the entire end of the film out in slow motion, it was not a fair call if both of them were not dq'd! Just like the womens, that was also a bad call. The us should not have won and the others should not have been dq'd. This Judging seems a bit biased!

Hamelin definately should be disqualified also. Look at his past races.
He's always flailing about, twisting etc and making contact and making it look like other skaters fault. I think that's his Canuck style and should be disqualified from most races.

He see gold now when he looks at that medal, the rest of the world will see gold plating. He knows what he did...and so does Tremblay and the world. Slow motion don't lie, except for the canadian judge.

GREAT HAND-EYE COORDINATION, DUDE. A real gumby like hand...
I bet you that you could've been a great butterfly goalie with that hand.

You saw Sung was sliding a little bit and YOU REACHED OUT FOR IT. YES, YOU DID.
Your hand on Sung's rib WASN"T BELONG TO ANY NECCESSARY SKATING MOVE.

You are a truely (ill) spirited olympian. You've made me think twice about Canadians...

the canadian referees, better take another look at the race they only seen what they wanted to see because it was a canadian skater who took the gold even though he had his hand on the korean skater and caused him to fall down also and all ohno did was put his hand up to keep from getting run into by the other canadian racer so if there going to disgualify ohno they better disgualify hamelin and take his medal away from him he caused thekorean guy to fall as well so if anybody deserves the gold it should be the korean skater

Hamelin looked like he pushed the Korean. Apolo was just TOUCHING the other canadian, like most of the other times they just touch the people in the races. They sould definitely have a redo or something.

When the koreans did it to him they didn't dq them early in the races and other races....omg...trying not to whine, but don't dq one and not the other for the same thing.....He rocked this whole time! God bless the USA!

There was a questionable push by Hamelin right when the korean guy slipped a bit and the judge decided that the korean guy would have fell anyways. It's questionable, but good race either way. Gratz Canadians.
