Tomasz Majewski Biography
Majewski didn't qualify for the final round of the shotput competition in the 2004 Olympics, finishing 18th, and he didn't really turn many heads over the next four years leading up to the Beijing Games. But he won bronze at the 2008 World Indoor Championships - his first medal at a major international competition - and then took gold in Beijing, as well as at the World Athletics Final shortly after the conclusion of the Olympics. That roll continued into 2009, when he finished first in the European Indoors and European Team Championships, and turned in even better throws despite winning silvers in both the worlds and World Athletics Final. The last few years, however, have been a bit of a mixed bag. Majewski picked up a silver at the 2010 European Championships, but finished just ninth at last year's worlds. He bounced back earlier this year by taking a bronze at the World Indoors, but finished behind American Ryan Whiting and German David Storl - perhaps his two biggest threats to the defense of his gold medal in London.
