Sherone Simpson

Simpson specializes in the 100 and 200 meters and is the reigning silver medalist in the 100 after finishing tied with Kerron Stewart at the 2008 Games in Beijing _ Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce took the gold to give Jamaica a clean sweep. She also participated in the 2004 Olympics in Athens and was a member of her country's 4x100 meter relay team that won gold. Jamaica failed to defend that title in Beijing, not finishing the race because of a bad baton exchange. Simpson also has a pair of silvers in the 4x100 from the 2005 and 2011 World Championships. In the 200, Simpson beat the pack at the 2006 Commonwealth Games, and her personal best of 22.00 seconds in that distance _ run twice _ ranks sixth all-time among Jamaican women. She is fifth among her countrywomen with a time of 10.82 seconds in the 100. Simpson attended the University of Technology in Kingston, Jamaica, turning down a scholarship in the United States to work with coach Stephen Francis, who has also had success with men's sprinter Asafa Powell.
