Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce Biography
Fraser-Pryce's main event is the 100 meters, and the Jamaican sprinter showed off her speed in her Olympic debut in 2008 at Beijing. She became the first Jamaican woman to win the gold medal in the 100, outlasting countrywomen Sherone Simpson and Kerron Stewart by 0.20 seconds. Her time of 10.78 seconds was a personal best until she ran the distance in 10.73 seconds _ a Jamaican national record and fourth-fastest ever _ to win gold at the 2009 World Championships. Fraser-Pryce was a member of Jamaica's gold medal-winning team in the 4x100 meter relay at that event as well, and she has silver medals from the 2007 and 2011 Worlds. In May 2010, Fraser-Pryce tested positive for a banned substance at the Diamonds League meet in Shanghai after taking oxycodone to treat a toothache. One month later, she was suspended for the duration of the season.
