A 1998, 2002 and 2006 Olympian, Smith won a trip to the bronze medal stand in Salt Lake City with a third place finish in the 500 meters … In addition to his Olympic performances, Smith is an eight-time member of the U.S. Speedskating World Short Track Team.

Smith has made numerous trips to the medal podium in the World Cups since 2002. He won a bronze in the 3000 meters in the 2003 World Cup 2, a bronze in the men’s 5000-meters relay at the 2004 World Cup 6, a silver in the 500 meters at the 2004 World Cup 6, a bronze in the 500 meters at the 2004 World Cup 1, a silver in the 5000-meters relay at the 2004 World Cup 2 and a gold medal in the 5000 meters relay at the 2005 World Cup 6. Smith finished the 2004-2005 season with a sixth place world ranking.

Personal
Smith considers winning the 500m bronze medal at the 2002 Olympic Games to be his greatest accomplishment. He cites his parents as his strongest influence because "they are always there for me with support and love" … Smith opened a business installing upgraded engines and performance parts … His future plans include continuing his business and getting his college degree.
