Highlights
Apolo Anton Ohno’s historic, action-packed performances during the Salt Lake City Winter Games, catapulted the sport of short track speedskating to Olympic prominence. Ohno’s inspiring silver medal victory in the 1000m, seized after a final lap pile-up and unforgettable finish, was surpassed only by his spirited gold medal-winning 1500m race in which Ohno shut out longtime rival South Korea.

Since his 2002 Olympic feats, the soul patch bearer went on to win his seventh U.S. National Championship. He also became the 2003/2004 World Cup overall champion and seized the 2004/2005 World Cup overall title (his career third) and was ranked first in the 1000 meters and 1500 meters and second overall in the 500 meters. At the 2005 World Short Track Speedskating Championships in Beijing, Ohno clinched the world title in the 1000m and 3000m, giving him silver in the overall. He was ranked fourth overall at the 2003 World Short Track Speedskating Championships … Ohno has also been named U.S. Speedskating's 2003 Male Athlete of the Year and was a 2002 and 2003 finalist for the Sullivan Award, recognizing the best amateur athlete in the country … During the 2005-06 World Cups, Ohno was the overall champion of the 2nd World Cup and is currently ranked 3rd. He is the in the top five ranking for all the individual distances thus far this season.
