Lisa Raymond Biography
Currently ranked No. 1 in the world in doubles along with partner Liezel Huber, Raymond is set to represent the United States in the Olympics for the second time. At the 2004 Athens Games, she lost in the singles competition in the third round to Australia's Alicia Molik, and, in doubles partnered with Martina Navratilova, lost in the quarterfinals to Japanese duo Ai Sugiyama and Shinobu Asagoe. Raymond has won six Grand Slam titles, winning her lone Wimbledon crown in 2001 with Australia’s Rennae Stubbs. Raymond and Stubbs combined for three titles from 2000-01 before she partnered with Australia’s Sam Stosur to win her next two in 2006 and 2008. The lone Grand Slam title for Raymond and Huber came in last year’s U.S. Open when they dropped one set en route to the title. In that match, Raymond became the oldest woman to win a Grand Slam women’s doubles title, at age 38. The partnership with Huber began in April of last season - the duo reached the quarterfinals of Wimbledon and won their first title in Toronto in August before their breakthrough at the U.S. Open. They closed the year by winning in Tokyo as well as the WTA championships in Turkey.
