Chloe Sutton Biography
Sutton secured a trip to her second Olympics with a second-place finish in the 400 meter freestyle at the trials. She is the first American to make an Olympic swimming team in both open-water and pool events. Sutton qualified for the Beijing Games as an open-water swimmer and placed 22nd in the 10K after winning the test event to qualify. A five-time medalist in major international competition, Sutton just missed another when she came in fourth in the 800 free at the 2011 world championships. At the 2010 Pan Pacifics, she won gold in the 400 free and silver in the 800 free. Sutton won the 5K at the 2009 Open Water national championships after earning a bronze medal in the 2008 open water worlds. She defended her national title in the 10K and won the 5K at the 2007 nationals. She says the most influential person in her life is her father, an Air Force officer who was in the Pentagon at the time of the Sept. 11 attacks.
