Bolt gets piece of Berlin Wall—huge piece

BERLIN (AP)—Usain Bolt was honored by the city of Berlin by receiving an original segment of the Berlin Wall—nearly three tons of it.

The Jamaican sprinter, who broke world records in winning gold medals in the 100 and 200 meters, was presented with the piece of wall at a small ceremony Sunday, the final day of the world championships.

The 12-foot high section will be delivered to Bolt’s training camp in Jamaica.

The piece of the wall, which divided communist East Berlin from West Berlin between 1961 and 1989, is decorated with a life-size painting of Bolt running on the blue track of the Olympic stadium and the words “NEW WR”—new world record. Bolt set a world record in the 100 at 9.58 seconds and 19.19 in the 200.

“I will never forget Berlin,” Bolt said at the ceremony. “Ich bin ein Berlino.”

The bear mascot of the championships is called Berlino, while the phrase “ich bin ein Berliner” was used by former President John F. Kennedy during a visit to West Berlin.

Berlin Mayor Klaus Wowereit said Bolt had shown that “one can tear down walls that had been considered as insurmountable.”

The Berlin Wall came down in 1989, as communism was collapsing in Eastern Europe.

    I'd like to see Bolt run a 40 yard dash. Can he do it in under 4.00 sec? If anyone can he can. Just remember, taking an average ft/sec or yard/sec or m/sec doesn't jive. Nobody takes off at full speed. Bolt is probably still building up speed after 40 yards. Can he run a 40-yard dash in 3.48? I highly doubt it. 3.99? I'd love to find out....

I have Jamaican parent and yes I'm proud of my Jamaican people, yes we are proud people. haters never get any where because they are always watching other people, that doing the right thing, and not noticing that they are not doing anything useful in their life. only to criticize other people that doing something to better themself. you keep it up bolt.     Johnny Montana, you have a point (kinda) however you must take into account that guys as tall as bolt may be fast but are typically slowed down by their height. Usually the faster guys are smaller. Not to mention that theres nothing in the rulebook stating that you cant be a certain length. His height doesnt detract from his accomplishment. The same can be said for the long, tall, swimming man Michael Phelps.

    525 - Xavier - Cool post but you are talking AVERAGES. Bolt did not run a sub 4 second 40 because that is from the start. His slowest phase of the run. 40 times are from stand stills not rolling. Bolt very well may have averaged sub 4 second 40 times as you appear to be very skilled in Maths so I will not doubt your calculations but the fact is a 4 second 40 or better is timed from the start! Bolt's slowest phase of his run and any other world class sprinters for that matter and I would be very confident that his 40 times as in his first 40 yards which is less than 40meters is not fatser than 4 seconds and for sure not the time of 3.48 like you commented. It is not even worth the text to figure out 40 yard averages in a sprinters overall time because we all know they start slow and accelerate hitting top speed around 50-60 meters and then in fact decelerate towards the finish. Cool post on your part though but please don't be thinking Bolt is super human and runs these average times from a stand still.

    Big Deal. Usain Bolt is much taller than his competitors. Surely he runs very fast but only because he has very long legs which he takes bigger steps than the other guys. If he were the same height as the other runners, he wouldn't have won any races. Friendly speaking.

    after you ran : 9.58 wr... and , 19.19, again, wr....you are now officially, sir usain bolt! anyone caught calling you without the "sir", will be punished accordingly to the law. no one will be above the law.
