Marti Malloy Biography

Ranked No. 1 in the country and No. 12 in the world as of May 19 by the IJF in the women’s -57 kg, Malloy is set to make her Olympic debut after failing to qualify by half a point four years ago. Joining Kayla Harrison, Travis Stevens, Kyle Vashkulat and Nick Delpopolo on the U.S. national team, the four-time collegiate champion at San Jose State hasn’t competed since suffering a sprained right shoulder at a World Cup tournament in February. After winning back-to-back silver medals at the Pan American championships, Malloy had to pull out of this year’s event in late April due to her injury. She has, however, picked up her training and should be ready to go for the Games. Malloy has won 56 of 92 matches over the course of her career. She is coached by 92-year-old Yosh Uchida, SJSU’s longtime coach.
