Jonathan Horton Biography

Horton will be competing in his second Olympics after a very successful Beijing Games, in which he won the silver medal in horizontal bar and helped the United States to a surprising team bronze. He took bronze in the individual all-around at the 2010 worlds and is a two-time champion in that competition in the U.S. championships, in which he's won seven golds and 21 medals overall. Horton has won eight all-around titles between the U.S. championships, American Cup and World Cup, exhibiting his versatility and proficiency in all events. He lists his favorite as the horizontal bar, a competition in which his fearless and daring persona is evident in his high-risk, high-reward routines. Easily the oldest gymnast on the U.S. team, he provides leadership for a talented but inexperienced squad that has no other members over 20. That steadying presence could prove critical for the U.S. men, who haven't reached the top of the podium since the 1984 Los Angeles Games but are expected to challenge Japan and China for team gold in London. Horton is married to Haley DeProspero, a gymnast who like him competed at the University of Oklahoma.
