Daniel Purvis Biography

Purvis is the current British all-round champion in men's artistic gymnastics and will go to the London Games with high hopes of winning a medal. The 21-year-old started his gymnastics career at the age of seven and made his breakthrough in 2006 by winning gold in the parallel bars at the World Schools' Championships. Liverpool-born Purvis became the British men's all-around champion in 2010, retaining the title a year later. He also won individual bronze at the 2010 World Gymnastics Championships. Purvis claimed individual bronze medals at the 2010 and 2011 European Gymnastics Championships. He also won team silver at the 2010 Europeans. However, 2012 has so far been a very productive year for Purvis. In January, he led Great Britain's men's team to victory at the Olympic test event at the O2 Arena in London, a result that saw Britain's men qualify for the London Games. Purvis was then part of the five-man Great Britain team that secured gold at the 2012 European Men's Artistic Gymnastics Championships, with the powerful Russia team having to settle for silver.
