Tania Cagnotto Biography

The first Italian woman to win a diving medal in a World Championship, Cagnotto will now attempt to become the first female Italian diver to win an Olympic medal, and the first Italian man or woman to capture a diving medal since 1980, when her father Giorgio Cagnotto took home bronze from Moscow in the 3m springboard. Tania Cagnotto has won bronze in the 3m springboard at the World Championships in 2009, 2007 and 2005, and won silver along with Francesca Dallape in synchronized 3m springboard at the 2009 World Championships in Rome. She has 10 career gold medals from European Championships, eight coming in springboard events. This is the fourth Olympic Games for Cagnotto, who made her debut at age 15 in the Sydney Games in 2000, placing 18th in the 3m springboard. She's also competed in the 10m platform in the two most recent Olympics, with her best finish in any event a fifth-place showing in the 3m springboard in 2008 at Beijing.
