Dani King Biography
Young track cyclist Dani King is part of a strong Great Britain team expected to top the velodrome medal table in London. The 21-year-old was part of the British team pursuit trio that won gold at the European Championships in 2011. King, alongside Laura Trott and Wendy Houvenaghel, set the fastest time in qualifying at the World Championships of 2011 and beat the American team to gold in the final. Finishing behind Marianne Vos and Katherine Bates, King also picked up an individual bronze in the scratch event. With Jo Rowsell replacing Houvenaghel in the team pursuit line-up, the three won the World Cup event at the London Olympic velodrome, setting a new world record for the event. Heading into the 2012 World Championships as favourites for the event, the GB trio saw their world record broken by a strong Australian team, only for the British to respond with an even faster time. Head-to-head in the final, great Britain smashed their own record again, finishing over a second clear of the Aussies. King is likely to lose out on selection to dominant team-mate Trott in the omnium - a new event to the Olympic roster - but as an established member of the team pursuit squad, King is expected to medal in London.
