Athlete Profile

  • Dec. 24, 1984, Chicago
  • Third in the 200m at the 2008 Olympic Trials; 2007 World Outdoor 4x100m gold medalist; 2007 World Outdoor bronze medalist; 2005 World Outdoor silver medalist; 2007 USA Outdoor runner-up; 2006 USA Outdoor champion; 2006 World Cup champion; 2005 NCAA Indoor and Outdoor 200m champion; American indoor 200m record holder; 2004 NCAA Outdoor champion.
  • Placed third in the 200m at the 2008 U.S. Olympic Trials, finishing in 19.90 seconds.
  • In 2007, Spearmon had wins at the adidas Track Classic, Reebok Grand Prix and Nike Prefontaine Classic.
  • In 2006, topped 19.90 seconds on five occasions.
  • Sprinted away from an outstanding field June 25, 2005 to successfully defend his NCAA 200m men's title in a then-world-leading time of 19.91 seconds. Running with a sore right knee, pulled ahead on the final turn and outran the competition from there, losing his balance and tumbling to the track after crossing the finish line. Spearmon's performance, along with teammate Tyson Gay's third-place finish in that race (19.93), clinched the Razorbacks' 41st NCAA track or cross country championship under coach John McDonnell. Following his performance, Spearmon announced that he would give up the remainder of his college eligibility to pursue a professional running career.
  • At the 2005 NCAA Indoor Championships, he fulfilled his potential with two American records in the 200m. He ran 20.21 in the semifinals, then improved to 20.10 in the final.
  • Wasted little time in making in an impact as a freshman at Arkansas. In his first race as a Razorback, gained an NCAA automatic qualifying mark at the Tyson Invitational by finishing the 200m in 20.74 seconds. Later that summer, became the first Razorback in history to win the NCAA Outdoor title with his wind-aided time of 20.12.
  • Was a three-sport standout at Fayetteville High School, where he played basketball and football for two years. Earned all-state honors in the 100m, 200m, and 400m. He also competed in the decathlon and 300m hurdles.
  • He garnered All-American accolades in the 200m at the Nike Indoor Classic.
