- Tied rival Ryan Lochte's world record in the 200m backstroke at the 2008 Olympic trials, finishing in 1 minute, 54.32 seconds.
- Peirsol set a world record in the 100m backstroke at the trials, beating a strong field with a time of 52.89 seconds.
- Broke his own world record and claimed gold in the 100m BK at the 2007 World Championships.
