BEIJING, Nov 13 (Reuters) - China’s former world and Olympic champion high hurdler Liu Xiang continued his comeback from injury by winning his third continental title at the Asian athletics championships in Guangzhou.

The 26-year-old cruised to victory in Thursday’s 110 metres hurdles final in 13.50 seconds, well outside the 12.88 he ran to claim the then world record in 2006 before an Achilles injury ended his Beijing Olympic dream.

Liu, who also won the regional title in 2002 and 2005 but skipped the 2007 version in favour of the world championships, ran for the first time since the heats of the Beijing Games in his home city of Shanghai in September.

The 18th Asian athletics championships conclude on Saturday in Guangzhou, the host city of next year’s Asian Games. (Reporting by Nick Mulvenney; Editing by Peter Rutherford; To query or comment on this story email sportsfeedback@thomsonreuters.com)
