- Began gymnastics in 1993, and started competing internationally in 2003.
- Won the silver medal on the uneven bars at the 2008 European Championships in April, scoring 15.800 to finish behind only Russia's Ksenia Semenova. Nistor also finished sixth on the balance beam, and helped the Romanian women win the gold medal in the team competition.
- Enjoyed an excellent meet at the 2007 World Championships in Stuttgart, Germany, winning the women's all-around silver medal, adding another silver on the balance beam and finishing sixth on the uneven bars while helping the Romanian team claim the bronze.
- Competed at the 2006 World Championships in Aarhus, Denmark, but failed to medal, finishing fourth all-around and seventh on both the beam and uneven bars.
- Nistor has won gold medals in several World Cup series events, including Glasgow in 2007 (uneven bars), Ghent in 2007 (beam, floor exercise), and Glasgow in 2006 (beam).
