Athlete Profile
- Won gold medal in the 400-meter freestyle at the 2007 World Championships.
- Finished 2007 ranked first in the 400-meter freestyle and is considered the early favorite to win gold in the event in Beijing.
- Also won bronze in the 200-meter freestyle at the 2007 World Championships and hopes to contend in Beijing in the 1500-meter freestyle as well.
- Won seven medals, including three golds, at the 2006 Asian Games and was named athlete of the meet.
- Became first Korean to win three individual golds at a single Asian Games.
- Won golds in the 1500-meter freestyle and 400-meter freestyle and silver in the 200-meter freestyle at the 2006 Pan Pacific Swimming Championships.
- Named the 2006 Pacific Rim male swimmer of the year by Swimming World Magazine.
- Qualified for the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens in the 1500-meter freestyle at the age of 14, making him the youngest member of Korean team, but a false start in the preliminaries disqualified him from contention.
