- Yamada will be making her second appearance in the Olympics after helping Japan win the bronze medal at the 2004 Games.
- She hit .412 in Athens with a team-best five RBIs.
- Struggled at the 2007 World Cup of Softball, batting .222 with no homers or RBIs in six games, including an 0-for-3 performance with two strikeouts in the title game against the United States.
- Also went 0-for-3 against the U.S. in the championship game of the 2007 Canada Cup.
- Had much better results at the 2006 World Championships as Japan won the silver medal, leading the team with 10 runs and hitting .379 with a home run and six RBIs.
