- Currently holds the world record of 9,026 points in the decathlon, which he set at an event in Gotzis, Austria, in 2001 - becoming the first athlete ever to break the 9,000-point barrier.
- To achieve the feat, Sebrle broke his personal best in the 1,500-meter race by nearly seven seconds in the final event.
- Is the defending Olympic champion in the decathlon, as he won his first Olympic gold medal in 2004 in Athens, breaking the Olympic record in the event with a 8,893-point performance. He had taken silver at the 2000 Sydney Games.
- Is also the defending world champion in the decathlon, as he won his first outdoor world title in 2007 after capturing silver in 2003 and 2005.
- Has won gold twice - in 2001 and 2004 - in the heptathlon at the world indoor championships, also winning three bronze medals at the event.
- Is a two-time gold medalist in the decathlon at the European outdoor championships and a three-time winner in the heptathlon at the European indoor championships.
- Has a friendship - and a rivalry - with American decathlete Bryan Clay, who took the silver medal behind Sebrle at Athens, then the gold ahead of his friend at the 2005 world championships.
