Fourth-Place Medal, a Yahoo! Sports blog covering the Summer Olympics in Beijing

Our long national nightmare is over; the American team will no longer be marching into an Olympic Opening Ceremony outfitted in hideous berets from a Canadian company. For the first time since 2000, the U.S. Olympic team will be wearing something other than Roots brand clothing on the opening night of the Games. This time around the USOC wisely enlisted Ralph Lauren to design the official American Team Olympic Uniform. And fashion minds much more discerning than mine think it's a hit.

Guest of a Guest first published the photos of the Polo unis and gave them rave reviews:

[Ralph Lauren] made wonderful use of rich red white and blue colors, and his choice of pieces and their cuts will certainly drape the Americans in sartorial splendor. For the opening ceremony, the men and women will have a double vent navy blazer with safari pleats on the back as well as a white driving hat and canvas walking shoes.
You'd think that after watching four seasons of Project Runway I'd have at least a basic understanding of what that just said; but, alas, I do not. It sounds pretty good though.

I don't know what to think about the ascot-looking thing on the woman's uniform and I'm not a big fan of the hats, but I can't deny that the whole ensemable looks pretty sharp. And it's a heck of a lot better than what the U.S. team was rockin' back in Athens.

The more I look it, I think you all are right. They are kind of flight attendant-like. But you have to admit, anything beats those berets from last time. Just another example of exceeding expectations only because they were so low to begin with.

Once again our athletes and U.S. citizens will be embarrassed in the opening ceremonies with goofy, boring, flight attendant clothes. If anything please lose the porn-star hats!!! There is nothing American about those.

Ugly? I don't think so, at all. They're really tasteful, well-tailored, and very vintage-looking. They're going to be quite sharp-looking out there.

For the first time that I can remember, the US team will not look obnoxious in some foreign-made attire. Let's see...we had the berets. Before that we had the cowboy uniform (for a team of non-cowboys). The picture above is on mannequins...I trust they will not look as "flight attendant" during tonight's ceremonies and that they will look classy, instead of obnoxious like the world currently perceives us.
