Five facts about Michael Phelps' five gold medals

1) If Michael Phelps were a country (Phelpsylvania, perhaps), he'd be tied for third overall in gold medals won.

2) In the total medal count, Phelps would be tied for 12th overall with the Netherlands.

3) India, Indonesia, Pakistan, Nigeria, Egypt, Mexico and Bangladesh (appx. combined population = 2.1 billion) have earned a total of four Olympic medals in Beijing. Phelps (appx. population = 1) has five.

4) Phelps has won five of the eight gold medals awarded in the men's swimming competition.

5)  Excluding the United States and Australia, the rest of the world has earned a total of five golds in the men's and women's swimming competition. Phelps -- well, you get the picture.

    TRULY a genuine young athelete! I hold high respect for Michael Phelps. He's a great role model for my sons...to aspire to be gracious, determined, disciplined, and respectful all at the same time! Way to go, Michael! The US is behind you...cheering you on! You really are one of the greats!

    I demand the Olympic Committee investigate Phelps. Olympic rules clearly state that only humans may compete in Olympic swimming events. Until we see DNA proof that Phelps is 100% human, and not 1/2 human - 1/2 aquatic sea creature, we should not regocnize this "man's" medals. :)

    The man deserves any and all medals he wins. Apparently, he lives his life right and hopefully he will continue to do so and be an example for many young people to emulate. I am amazed and thankful to be able to see such greatness. And most of all, don't forget his mom, she is as big a part of all his success. Go Michael, you are man !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    You must be a really fun person, finding someone losing to be a better story than someone being the absolute best at what they do. I'm guessing you fail regularly at life, just like you did in that post.

    Michael Phelps is incredible FIVE GOLD MEADALS FIVE WORLD RECORDS!!!! Thats amazing!!!!! He has probably inherited fish traits because he is SO FAST in the water!!!! To sum it up, he is a BEAST!!!!!!!

    The problem with cheaters is it makes us look at honest, hard working, talented athelets with pause on their authenticity. Phelps is a champion, in many ways, and I choose to view him as one until proven otherwise. He doesn't need to prove anything to us, just to himself!
