8/8/08: The Olympics begin

After seven years of waiting, countless controversies and approximately $5 billion in costs, the 2008 Olympics finally kicked off this hour in Beijing with a resplendent Opening Ceremony at Beijing National Stadium in China's capital city. The artistic program will finish soon, with the parade of nations to follow. Early reports are that the Ceremony has been stunning.

Fourth-Place Medal will live blog the NBC broadcast of the Ceremony tonight beginning at 7:28.

So, as NBC says they will broadcast the LIVE feed of the opening the real opening is happening right now l.... "live"
I don't get it. Are they gonna do a repeat of the opening tonight or just replay the event they record now and call it live later?

At the beginning of 'The Larry Sanders Show' the announcer always said, "live on tape, from Hollywood". NBC will be "live on tape, from Beijing".

Very nice photo coverage completely ruined Bush's ugly mug in way too many of the shots! Isn't this event about the athletics? Who ever compiled the slideshow should be kicked!!

Seriously, RU so un-American & un-Patriotic that you can't even show pictures of OUR atheletes and flag who represent the United States of American the greatest country in the world!!! It's shameful you put pictures of the Cuba flag and the French & Russian leaders in your slideshow, but cannot put any in of our American atheletes!!!

You know? After viewing these pictures and knowing what kind of mischief communist china is causing around the world and how they hate the West and own most of it, It reminds me of the thirty something Olympics in Germany and the image of hitler presiding over them. This is frightening!
