- Third at 2007 Olympic Trials - men's marathon; 2006 USA half-marathon champ; 2005 USA 25km champion; two-time LaSalle Bank Shamrock Shuffle champ.
- Placed third at the 2008 Olympic Trials in the marathon, finishing in 1 hour, 51 minutes, 45 seconds.
- Dominated the field at the 2006 USA Half-Marathon Championships with his win in a personal-best time of 1:02:39 seconds. Also had impressive performances in marathon competition, finishing fourth at Boston and sixth in Chicago, where he posted a personal best of 2:10:47.
- Led Team USA to a fourth-place finish at the 2005 Marathon Cup in Helsinki with his ninth-place finish.
- Many remember Sell as the man who made a bold move at seven miles in the 2004 Olympic Marathon Trials, leading through 22 miles before eventually fading to finish 12th. Not disheartened by the experience, Sell finished the 2004 Chicago Marathon in 2:13.18.
- In May 2005, won his first USA title at the USA 25km Championships in Grand Rapids, Mich. (1:15:27). It was the seventh-fastest 25km time ever for an American. He also has numerous top 10 finishes in USA Championships and international races, including a second-place finish at the 2005 USA 10 Mile Championships (47:37) and a ninth-place finish at the 2005 Lilac Bloomsday Run.
