  • Has been involved in gymnastics since the age of five, when he took up the sport at Xiantao Spare-time Sports School. Joined the Hubei provincial team at age 10, and the Chinese national team at age 16.
  • Enters the Beijing Games as a top medal contender after winning All-Around gold in each of the last two World Championships.
  • Took home gold in the All-Around with a score of 93.925 at the 2007 World Championships in Stuttgart, Germany.
  • Scored an even better 94.400 to claim All-Around gold at the 2006 World Championships in Aarhus, Denmark.
  • Won the silver medal in the All-Around competition at the 2000 Sydney Games with a score of 58.361.
  • Fared worse individually at the 2004 Athens Games, where he placed seventh all-around.
