Andre Iguodala Biography
Perhaps the least heralded player on the U.S. roster, Iguodala possesses good versatility and an unselfish demeanor which made him a worthwhile selection in the eyes of USA Basketball chairman Jerry Colangelo. In fact, coach Mike Krzyzewski has started Iguodala in every game he's played for Team USA since joining the roster in 2009. He had the fourth-fewest field-goal attempts of any U.S. player at the 2010 world championships, but shot 58.8 percent - second-best on the team - and his 5.7 scoring average was tied for fourth-lowest. However, he led the squad with 16 steals while averaging 4.6 rebounds and helped Team USA go 9-0 to qualify for London. His selflessness further showed this season with the 76ers even though he took some criticism for it from Philadelphia fans, averaging his fewest shot attempts and points (12.4) since 2005-06. However, Iguodala made his first All-Star team, contributing a team-best 5.5 assists and 6.1 rebounds per game and helping the 76ers nearly win their first division title in a decade. They ultimately went on to make their best playoff run since 2003 and Iguodala had a solid postseason, highlighted by the winning free throws late in Game 6 of the first round to eliminate Chicago. Considered a very competent defensive player and outstanding athlete, Iguodala has had four seasons in which he's averaged at least 17 points to go with solid career averages of 5.8 rebounds, 4.9 assists and 1.7 steals.
