Khatuna Lorig Biography

Lorig will be one of the most experienced athletes at the London Games, where she will make her fifth Olympic appearance and represent the United States for the second time. The veteran archer made her debut in 1992 for the Unified Team - made up of the former Soviet republics - and helped it win a bronze medal in the team competition. The next two Olympiads she competed for her native Georgia before becoming an American citizen in 2005. Three years later in Beijing, Lorig had one of her best Olympic finishes, reaching the quarterfinals, and was bestowed with the honor of flag-bearer at closing ceremonies. More recently, Lorig was a member of the silver medal-winning team at the 2011 Pan Am Games and helped the United States qualify for the women's team competition in London, where it will seek its first medal since 1988. She also taught Academy Award-nominated actress Jennifer Lawrence how to use a bow and arrow for her role as Katniss Everdeen in "The Hunger Games."
