Last game: 3-2 loss (OT) at Pittsburgh, May 4 Series: Lost Eastern Conference semifinals, 4-1 With Sunday's loss, the Rangers were eliminated in the conference semifinals for the second straight season. Last year, they were ousted by the Buffalo Sabres in six games. ... The Rangers are now 0-4 in series against the Penguins, also falling to Pittsburgh in 1989, 1992 and 1996. New York has not reached the conference finals since 1997, Wayne Gretzky's last season in the NHL. ... The Rangers lost their only two overtime games in this year's playoffs, also falling to New Jersey, 4-3, in Game Three of the conference quarterfinals. ... Captain RW Jaromir Jagr was held without a point Sunday but finished as the Rangers' leading playoff scorer with 15 points on five goals and 10 assists. . ... The Rangers continued to struggle with the man advantage, managing just one shot on four power-play opportunities Sunday. They finished 3-for-25 in the series (12 percent). ... LW Lauri Korpikoski, a 21-year-old Finnish center, became the first member of the Rangers since Doug Weight on April 13, 1991, to make his NHL debut in a postseason game. He scored the Rangers' first goal on Sunday. ... The Rangers were furious when no penalty was called after LW Ryan Malone clipped C Chris Drury with a high stick 90 seconds into the second period. Drury was bleeding from a nasty cut and the Rangers were expecting a four-minute minor against Malone. |
