In staving off elimination, everyone needs to be great. That includes your goaltender. Actually, it has to start with your goaltender. And as the Stars sat on the brink of their season ending, Marty Turco came up with the game they needed.

Turco stopped 33 of 34 shots, and the rest of the Stars came through on the offensive side in a 3-1 victory over Detroit on Wednesday night. The Stars will live to see another game, thanks mostly to Turco's performance in net. But he will be going back to Joe Louis Arena, a place that had been wonderful for him in his college career but nothing but horrible since he turned pro.

That's something he needs to shake now with the Stars still facing elimination.

Maybe it was payback, maybe it was just good fortune. The Dallas Stars aren't going to quibble.
