Free agent forward Owen Nolan has agreed to a two year deal with the Minnesota Wild worth $2.75 million a season. Nolan, 36, recorded 32 points and 71 penalty minutes in 77 games with the Calgary Flames in 2007-08.

"Owen Nolan is a true power winger who can score goals, play a physical brand, play either wing and take face-offs," Wild president and general manager Doug Risebrough said in a statement. "We are excited to add a player of his experience and versatility."

The 16-year veteran, taken first overall by the Quebec Nordiques in the 1990 NHL Entry Draft, is a five-time NHL All-Star (1992, 1996, 1997, 2000 and 2002) and has collected 807 points and 1,727 PIM in 1,068 career matches with Quebec, Colorado, San Jose, Toronto, Phoenix and Calgary.

The Wild also signed goalie Barry Brust to a multiyear contract and right wing Jesse Schultz to a one-year deal on Sunday.

He will help this young inexperienced team through some tough games. I think the price is a little steep but that is honestly what this team needs.

Yeah, he is old, but he is still good enough, and he will bring a little more expieriance to the young team, which we need after losing Rolston.

WOW!!! That is alot of money for a older vet that is pretty close to the end of his playing days. I hope he can go to the WILD and be that guy that can still put up desent points and play the veteran role on the ice and locker room. but coulda spent the money more wisley???? guess we gotta wait and see. But wish him all the luck in the State of Hockey. The Wild are a great up and comeing team and I look forward to watching them this year. ohhh for all you kids that love to be first and get off on it. I AM #9 YES I AM THE BEST!!!!!

I'm guessing not many of you saw him play last year. He was one of the best players on the ice for the Flames and brought a lot of leadership and grit to the squad...isn't that exactly what Min has been missing? A good pick up for them even thought they are obviously paying more for the experience and leadership than for what he will produce.

...and better than that in the playoffs. I figured Nolan would be on one-year deals from here out, but more power to him if he can get a promise for $2.75 next year.

Kuckles...That goal was definetly a grinder goal...not as embarrasing as a certain Penguin's penalty shovel "attempt" from a few years ago but definetly one of the least pretty goals I've ever seen. It did go in after all...

I have always liked this guy - but this proves my point that GM's have absolutely lost their collective minds, and may have been the reason for the lockout(s) (see Hossa's deal for more proof)

He's a great leader but he's not worth that much money! Rediculous. I'm glad we have Bertuzzi instead, I wouldn't pay Nolan that much if I were Sutter either.

A lot of money, but the guy still has something special. Books was right when he said he was the best player on the ice for the Flames many nights. Big time player that does big things (1st round last year vs the Sharks). I would take this guy anyday of the week on any team. I hope the Wild fans will treat him well. You're still the man Nolan, even when you put up a hat trick against us and beat Grier's face in!
Bertuzzi shouldnt even be in the league.

The stupid thing is the flames are not improving just maintaining the status quo on talent with every signing. they are a playoff team but a little improvement would be nice. a great pickup for the wild...every signing they have had is improving the team...a ton of guys this free agency being signed with the hope they will play like they have in the past ....from Ryder to Naslund....a whole lot of praying going on.

Wild are getting a bargain for the locker room. I personally saw this guy spilling his guts for a so-so team twice last year and thought he was at least the second best player on the ice behind Iginla or Lankow in the games I watched. We had Carney for his twilight performance mentor Burns. Now maybe Nolan can toughen up our talented softies.
