The Atlanta Thrashers had no way of knowing just how successful its waiver pickup could be. Forward Rich Peverley(notes) has ended up being the team's second-leading scorer this year after basically getting dumped by the Nashville Predators last season. Now the Thrashers are apparently getting ready to give Peverley a contract extension, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Peverley was put on waivers last year by Nashville and picked up by Atlanta. He then went on to score 13 goals and provide 22 assists in 39 games. This year, he has four goals and three assists so far, trailing only Ilya Kovalchuk(notes) on the team-scoring list.
The deal is supposedly going to be finalized in the next few days.
