Stars owner Hicks sees team as a Cup contender

Dallas Stars owner Tom Hicks was talking to team captain Brenden Morrow at the team's postseason party last summer and said Morrow described how much the team had grown and learned in its run to the Western Conference finals.

"It reminded me so much of the way the players were talking after 1997-98 when we made it to the Western Conference finals and lost to Detroit," Hicks said Tuesday, referring to the season before the Stars won the Stanley Cup. "I think it's the same situation this year - we've learned a lot and we're ready to take the next step."

Hicks said he believes the Stars can compete for both the Stanley Cup and the Presidents' Trophy, saying the team has made a significant transition in the past year under co-general managers Les Jackson and Brett Hull.

    red wings, stars, ducks, and sharks, who WANTS to face who in the spring??, as good as the wings look its still a tough road back to the cup. I wont bet against the wings ,but its a long season and things happen. as long as the wings stay healthy the only ones that can beat them is themselves, and oh yea, hey matt , if you think hockey sucks and your still reading about it, ho stupid does that make you?? go back to your room and watch cartoons where you belong.

    I think the Dallas Stars will get in the Stanley cup finals with Pittsburgh next year. First, they're gona play Detroit and beat Detroit. That way, no other team has to deal with the cheating Detroit. They have a plan to deal with Hossa too. The Dallas Stars are the best team ever! They set such great examples. They have the best captain ever. Brenden Morrow is a super-nice, respectful, understanding person. Pittsburgh got in the finals last year, and they should do it again this year. After all, they have two superstars that will only get better.

    Myself, Pittsburgh should make it back to the finals because they made it last year? Do you at all pay attention to hockey, you do realize they lost quite a few key players right? Losing Sergei Gonchar for most of the season doesn't help their case either. It's like the Red Wings losing Lidstrom. I think Pittsburgh will be luck to make it to the post season this year. Even if they do make it, Montreal is the team to beat in the East!

    By the way, Brenden Morrow's younger sister, Brenna Morrow, used to go to my school. Pittsburgh didn't lose too many good players.

    The Stars were a contender last year too. Its no secret that the Stars are a contender. I think Detroit and San Jose are the top teams in the conf. and the NHL.
    Prediction: Detroit over Chicago. San Jose over Dallas. Detroit over San Jose. Detroit over Montreal. I think the Stars have the fifth best chance to win the Cup behind Detroit, San Jose, Montreal and Philadelphia.
